Someone New - Hozier cover
I recorded this cover to celebrate getting tickets to see hozier perform at Leeds festival!. The stars aligned for me to get tickets, especially since I barely managed to get tickets to see him in Australia.
I’ve always admired Hozier’s ability to pay respectful homage to the Black musicians that inspire his sound. I also love how his music explores and intertwines the personal with the political; songs like ‘someone new’ encourage practising radical empathy and compassion for all, ‘take me to church’ criticises the politicisation of love, and tracks like ‘nina cried power’ directly reckon with music’s inherently political nature. I know I’ll be cheering loudly whatever message or music he decides to share tomorrow. 🛰️⭐️🌌
